Nortel, Huawei to Form JV
February 09, 2006
Nortel recently announced it has reached an agreement with Chinese Huawei to form a joint venture, which will combine Huawei's broadband access equipment and Nortel's broadband and voice technologies. The company said that the venture will aim to enable service providers to converge voice, video, data, and wireless services into one package and deliver this to customers via copper, fiber-optic, and fixed-wireless networks. Nortel stated that the joint venture is expected to start operations in the third quarter of 2006, and that Nortel will have a majority stake. It will be based in Ottawa, Canada.
